Mum and Dad come down. We’ve been used to utter Christmas autonomy, so that the duties and compromises of hospitality feel slightly constraining. Slightly but goodly so. It’s nice to have them here. We play Caitlin’s new Apples to Apples game. Grandpa wins everything! We watch Corner Gas. Coming and going. Drew is always disappearing. Dinner. SCTV. The kids know it all by heart, and sing along, as it were. This is an emblem of more and deeper; we’ve got a history, a set of references and traditions, a life.
