I take the boys to their first skating lesson. There’s Spencer the careful Grandpa. There’s Matt smiling up lovingly at his nice teacher. Spencer scrapes carefully, left and right. Matt chunks at the ice with his heels. Later he lays down to test that smooth ice with his tongue.
Sunday, August 25, 2003:
Sarah is down in her spot, gleefully drawing a grotesque Hogarthian series called “Sadie Through the Ages.” We all have a great afternoon, visiting, talking, taking breaks, returning. Pure hearted Matt gives us pause when he makes a deceptively simple offer to Mark. “Let me teach you how to play.” It’s true! They know, and we forget.
