Open house at the high school. Caitlin says hi to a boy from the swim team who ignores her, while another boy thinks that the greeting is meant for him, and he brightens, and waves. Then he realizes, and he deflates visibly, and withdraws hurriedly. Caitlin, seemingly not worried about that first kid, sees what has happened and tries to intervene. “Hello.” “It’s alright.” The deflation remains. High school! And even when we’re older and out of it, does it really change that much?
I also get to go around with little Drew, all smart and proto-sophisticated, but still uncertain about where to go and what to do at the big school. Caitlin is a good sport, and a good sister, and acts as our guide.
