Tuesday, May 10, 2005: Academy of St. Martin’s in the Fields, London
We attend a piano concert by a Sam Haywood at St. Martin’s. Great time! More to the point, the company! Is this the best time I’ve ever had with these youngsters? They listen fairly attentively, that is when Drew’s not whiplashing and knee swaying with fatigue. Caitlin imagines the soccer games that would go along with this accompaniment. Before and after and in between we have high humour, unforced interaction, easy intimacy. We talk about families, favouritism, their lives and, most promisingly, others’. Something to comfort me in my dotage, and maybe to brighten the way slightly when their struggles or doldrums come.
